What a writing API is, why QueueWrite needs one, and which providers you can connect.

A writing API is a programmatic connection to an AI writing model. QueueWrite sends your article brief and research context to the provider you choose, then receives draft text back into your Mac workspace.
QueueWrite uses the writing, research, and optional image accounts you choose. You create an API key with the provider, enter it in QueueWrite, and that provider bills usage on their own pricing. A consumer subscription such as ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro does not necessarily include API usage or API credit. QueueWrite does not resell provider access.
Why QueueWrite requires a writing API
QueueWrite is editorial software, not a bundled AI subscription. You bring your own writing provider so you control which account, models, and spend you use.
Supported writing providers

- OpenAI
- Anthropic
- OpenRouter
You choose the provider in Settings. QueueWrite does not silently switch your Writer provider. If a key fails or the account runs out of credit, fix that provider account or choose a different provider yourself. Use the related setup guides for DeepSeek, OpenAI, Anthropic, or OpenRouter.
In the Direct macOS app, provider credentials are stored in macOS Keychain and used by QueueWrite to talk to the provider you selected. Never email or message your API keys to QueueWrite support.
